Frequently Asked Questions

Who submits the content on Explorer Nation and how is it submitted?
All the links on Explorer Nation are submitted by the community. When someone comes across an interesting travel review or photo gallery while browsing the web, they'll submit it to Explorer Nation for the community to view and discuss. New links can be submitted by logging into your account (or registering a new one) and selecting the 'Submit Story' link in the top bar.

What kind of links should I submit?
Pretty much anything travel related. Hotel reviews, a blog entry about a vacation, a Flickr photo gallery, a site with travel tips, a government homepage, a booking site with a good deal, etc. If it's about travel and might be interesting to people who love to travel, go ahead and submit the link.

How do links make it to 'The World' page/Explorer Nation homepage?
When a link becomes popular, either by a high ranking or a high amount of community discussion, the link will automatically appear on the Explorer Nation homepage. The rank or comments needed to appear on the homepage are not hard numbers, but are based on a complicated mathematical algorithm. Bascially, the more interesting your submitted link is to the community, the more likely it is to appear on the Explorer Nation homepage.

Who takes the logo pictures and how do I know where the pictures are from?
The photos that appear on Explorer Nation are taken by the design team during their various travels around the world. To find out where the image is from:
In Internet Explorer: Just hover over the image and the location will popup next to your cursor.
In Firefox: Right-click the image and choose properties from the popup menu. The location is in the field 'Alternate Text'.

What time zone is appearing when I submit a story or add a comment?
Since Explorer Nation is an international community, we use Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), which is the time zone for Greenwich, England. Greenwich is the official timekeeper for the entire world.

What's with the green links, comment bars or rating boxes?
The usual blue links or ratings boxes will appear green if someone on your friends list is involved with a link. The rank box will turn green if a link is promoted by one of your friends and their username bar will also turn green when they add a comment. This is an easy and way to visually identify where your friends are hanging out on Explorer Nation.

I have an idea for a useful feature for Explorer Nation. How can I suggest it?

Our goal is to make users feel like they are exploring and learning about the world around them.
